sea_foam_green
Your Northern Kentucky roller derby league, United We Skate, are holding a fall festival, Fist Full of Fun. It will be insanity, with carnival games, free food from local businesses and the rollergirls themselves, and countless prizes worth thousands of dollars donated from local businesses, including gift certificates to restaurants, hair salons, and tattoo shops.

NO admission, and feel free to bring children.

We are also collecting items for the Freestore Foodbank. Think wintery: blankets, coats, hats, etc.

And just try to beat my elderly ass at Black 'N' Blue Bingo!

prospective graduate student [31 Aug 2006|12:44pm]

Hello! I am thinking of applying to CCM's graduate piano program. Are there any other piano majors in the community?

I got my bachelor's degree from Oberlin College this past year, and I will be taking the GRE and applying for admission this semester, auditioning in the spring. I haven't been on my official campus visit yet, but so far I'm very excited about CCM.

taking classes @ cinci state to save money? [11 Jul 2006|01:24pm]

honorandharmony
i am in my second year at UC, paying for it completely out of pocket & with private loans. i was wondering if anyone had taken classes at cinci state to save money? it works out to be about $220 cheaper per hour. i figure i can take a couple gen Ed requirements there while still taking upper level classes @ UC

had anyone done this? pros & cons?
also does UC have a list of classes that you get transfer credits for?

Caffeinated Craft Show - This Weekend! [09 May 2006|04:28pm]

sea_foam_green

This Saturday is the first annual Caffeinated Craft Show, I'll be there, and I'm bringing the big display piece, so be sure to stop by and get your picture taken as a fetus!

There are going to be all sorts of different vendors there, so if you haven't done any Mother's Day shopping yet, or if you're a Mom and feel like treating yourself to something extra nice, or if you have no children, and no parents, and you just like to buy things, this is the place to be.

All vendors are local cottage-industry types, so you'll find one-of-a-kind and handmade items you can't find anywhere else. Help support indie businesses in Cincinnati!

Get Your Bean On!

I'm Getting My Bean On at Caffeinated Craft Show

My friend Lindsey is running this. The best part is there are NO table fees. And there's going to be lots of cool Earth Day stuff, and a bunch of rollergirls skating around. If you are in the area, apply for a table!

Casting Call [03 Feb 2006|01:09am]

soulsight
I'm casting for my degree project, a short horror film. The film is about Jack the Ripper who is alive and well in modern America. It is estimated to be about 15 minutes long. I still have four roles that need to be filled.

Two female roles. Both are speaking parts (one is present throughout the film). Both roles are for prostitutes, so both women need to be attractive. The woman present throughout the film must have a sort of innocent look about her. My makeup artist makes the following declaration:

"Female actors must provide their own foundation, powder and mascara for sanitary reasons. Spreading eye funk is gross. And it had BETTER MATCH! They better not show up with makeup that doesnt match their skin tone."

So please, be choosy about what you bring. Because a happy makeup artist is a makeup artist I don't have to deal with.

There are also two male roles available. Both are essentially hired muscle. One of these is a minor speaking role. A larger build is preferable, though not necessary. If you have the heroin junkie look, I can live with that. Makeup should be limited to a basic blot powder, which will be provided. Must be comfortable with handling firearms (blank shooters).

To arrange an audition, please send headshots and resumes (along with availability) to soulsightstudios@hotmail.com.

If cast, costuming will be provided as you probably don't want to ruin your own clothes in a bloody death scene. Shooting is scheduled to begin in 2-3 weeks. Cast must be avaiable for weekends. Some weeknights with notice. I'd like to have shooting completed before Spring Break if at all possible.

The project is non-union/non-paying, but cast and crew will receive copy and credit. And I know better than to not feed the troops.

Transfer Student [02 Jan 2006|06:18pm]

neuroscibritty
Ahh....well I attended University of Cincinnati for fall quarter back in 2003 when I was a senior in high school (through the Post Secondary Dual Enrollment program)...well my parents moved to Texas in December of 2003, so I moved with them, since I was 17 years old at the time. I then enrolled at Texas State University, and most recently I transferred to the University of Texas at Austin (UT is the school who is playing USC in the Rose Bowl football super championships or whatever, fyi) Anyway, I've come full circle and am transferring back to UC, most likely to start in Fall 2006, and am posting here seeking advice!

First of all, I have a 3.5 overall GPA and I was wondering if there are scholarships specifically for transfer students, and if a 3.5 is considered competetive to gain those scholarships.

Also, since I lost my Ohio residency....are there any other people reading this community who pay the $7,500 a quarter for out-of-state tuition? If so, where do you aquire $20,000 a year in student loans? I dont qualify for financial aid, all I am able to get are unsubsidized stafford loans, which is 3,500 a year or something absurdly low.

Hmm what else...oh, I am sort of considering taking a year off to gain Ohio residency, so I can pay cheaper tuition. I'm still considered a "dependent" to my parents, so they can claim me for tax purposes and also so I can be on their health insurance. Has anyone here taken a year off from school, and if so, what did you do about health insurance/dental/optical. I need my wisdom teeth out, wear glasses, and would probably come down with the avain flu as soon as I got off my parents health insurance.

Oh, and even though I attended UC for a quarter, the other universities have been on the semester system. Has anyone transferred credits from semester schools to UC's quarter based system? How did that work out? Did you get screwed out of any credits?

And finally, the school I go to now finishes the semester in May, so I'd probably want to move to UC mid-May. Would it be easy to find a summer sublet starting in May that runs through September? Do people co-op summer quarter? Would I have a better chance finding a sublet starting in June or July or whatever for Summer quarter? I noticed a lot of the apartment listings on craigslist are year long leases that run Sept - Sept.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer me advice/help. I'm in town in Cincinnati staying with my best friend right now, and I'll stop by UC sometime this week to talk to an admissions person etc etc, but I realllllly like hearing personal experiences.

Hey, I'm on a last-minute hunt for an apartment around Clifton, preferably close to DAAP but it wouldn't make a big difference. A winter quarter sublet would also work. If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. Thanks!

sending in the deposit and picking a dorm [10 Nov 2005|07:04pm]

Hi! I just found out I was accepted into DAAP for interior design fall 2006 as a freshman which makes me very excited. To confirm my spot, they want a $50 fee. when should I send in my fee for top priority for dorm choice? is may too late? (asking because my father wants me to send it in late april.) what dorms do you recommend? if it matters, i'm out of state (maryland), minority (black), kinda shy but trying to change, interested in partying but not drinking/smoking.
